Penguin and Snowman birthday card

Happy 2018 Precious People!
Believe it or not, this is not a Christmas card, but a birthday card for my son-in-law, whose birthday is on Boxing Day.  He is very appreciative of my art, and is an artist himself, so, I decided to do a card for him that he could actually frame if he wanted to; thus, it is a one layer card with no add-ons; it's just images and colour!
I used my Winter Scene in combination with an image that was available for one of Kit And Clowder's colouring classes (a website dedicated to teaching colouring of digital images!)  It is a redux of an older digital image from a few years ago, Snowman and Penguins.
I coloured the image with mixed media - Copics, Coloured Pencil and a white gel pen for the snowflakes on Snowman's hat.  After laying down a layer of Copics, I went over parts of it with Prismacolour Pencils.  The parts I put a pencil layer on were the snow in the foreground, the snow on the tree on the right, the penguin whites parts, the snowman white parts, the snowman's hat and scarf, and the two blue/green hats and scarf, and the ear muffs.  Other than those parts, the sky, the distant hills and the snow on the trees on the left, as well as the striped scarf, are just Copics.  The reason for adding the coloured pencils are several: I feel I have a slight advantage with coloured pencils in that I can control where the colour goes, and control the blend a lot easier.  Also, if you use some of the medium or dark shades of Copics, like I had, the paper tends to get saturated quickly, and so it becomes impossible to deepen some of the shadows without getting ink pooling on the surface.  Switching to coloured pencil at that point gives me the option of deepening shadows successfully.  I was happy with the sky and the distant hills and the mid ground trees, and that is why they didn't get any added coloured pencils on top.
This type of colouring is very time consuming, and so it is not a type of project that one can do for every card, if you tend to want to make a lot of cards.  But it is very rewarding to see the end results!
Here is a list of the colours used:
Copics:
Sky: Y0000, BG90, B14, 91, W0, C1, 0 Blender
Ground and Snowman: Y0000, BG70, B60, BG000, B32, 41, BV23

Penguin Candy Cane

I really had fun with this one.  I used my rubber image, Penguin Candy Cane. I love how I didn't have to do much for the papers because the gorgeous digi papers Tracy made really make a card come together quickly. I used papers from A Wintery Glow and Christmas Tidings
I coloured the image with mixed media! I used Copics first, and then in some places I went over with coloured pencils and also gel pens (for the sparkle on the candy cane). Zoe of Make It Crafty got me onto that idea, and she has some videos to show you how to do it.
The sentiment is also a digi from Christmas Mix 2
Also used from Whimsy: Snowflakes and Poinsettia Dies, and put Snow Tex snow and glitter on them for a nice effect.
Here'a a list of Copics I used:
Whites of Penguin: W00, YR30, E70, BG0000, BV20, E40, 41, R30 and blender 0 on the cheeks
Beak and feet: YR30, 12, 14, 16, 27, Y28
Blacks: C00, 0, 1, 2, 3, 5 7, 9
Hood: W00, 1, 2, 4 and fur trim: N0, 1, 2, 3
Candy cane white: YR30, BV20, BG0000
Reds: R30, 32, 35, 14, 27, 39, RV69, 99
Ground: C00, N0, 1, 2, 3, 4
Thank you so much for visiting today!

Penguin Christmas Tree

Hi Peeps! I had to do a purple Christmas card - it's a tradition in our house, because we have one daughter who LOVES purple, and I mean LOVES.  I had so much fun making the lights on this image glow! I coloured Penguin Christmas Tree (rubber image with Whimsy) with the following Copic markers:
Beak and feet: YR30, YR12, 21, 28, E04  (I usually make them more bright orange, but for this card I wanted it to be a bit more neutral looking because of the strong purple and blue - otherwise they would have been too distracting in bright orange!)
Whites of penguin: YR30, E40, E71, BV20, B0000
Purples: Bv0000, 000, 00, 02, 03, 13, V25
Ground: BG90, 93, 0 blender
Blacks: C0, 1, 2, 3, 5 7, 9
Also used a digital sentiment from Whimsy, from the set Christmas Long And Lean
I used the lightest colours around each of the lights to create the effect of the glow. It helped a whole lot to leave the areas around the lights as light as possible - so, that's where I used the C0 and C1, so that the colour of the glow would show up. I also used a bit of coloured pencil overtop the whole thing, and especially to smooth out some of my black areas, because my C's need cleaning, and they were leaving some messy areas with the pigment coming out unevenly.  It's a pain to clean each marker tip and so I usually put it off... about ten minutes per marker - a lot of time, but it is worth it because then the marker acts like it did when it was new.
When daughter got the card, she said, "oh wow, I don't even care what it says inside, I just want to see the front!"  Made me feel really good (although I did write a sweet sentiment too, on the inside!).
I joined in the Splitcoaststamper challenge , "Colour Me Christmas"today, to use two different colouring mediums on a card.  I actually used three, because besides the Copic markers and coloured pencils, I also used some Distress Oxide inks on the designer paper, the largest layer, to make it more purple, as well as on the sentiment panel. Thank you for looking!

Penguin Warm Winter Wishes

Hello precious people! As I said, I just cannot stop making Christmas cards, it is such a wonderfully joyful creative thing for me to do!
On today's make, I used "Penguin Warm Winter Wishes", which is my re-imagined take of an older image I used to have in the digital section of Whimsy's catalogue.  It is now a rubber image (with the tweaks I gave it).
I coloured the image with two mediums - first, Copic markers, and then overtop of that I used coloured pencils.  The snow on the ground and the background is just Copics, so I can tell you the ones I used for that: BG70, 72, 10, 11, 0000 and 90!
I'm really happy to say that I used my own design for the background paper, I even created the snowflakes! And you can purchase it in the complete digital pack at Whimsy; I called it, "I Dream In Christmas!
I punched holes for the twine and threaded it through to add another design element.
The sentiment is from Whimsy as well, in the digital catalogue from a set Tracy designed, called Christmas Mix 2 (a very versatile and gorgeous set!)
Merry Christmas (again!)

Snowman String of Hearts

Hi Peeps! It's getting close to that special day! And I cannot stop making Christmas cards! I just love everything Christmas - it is such a heart warming theme to think on, that God came to us disguised as a little human baby that was born in a - a barn, and I shudder as a mother, thinking of what Mary went through giving birth in a dirty, smelly barn! But anyway, I digress... I just love how the Christmas celebration has such a variety of colour and images that get us thinking about the joys of life!  Here is another Christmas card showing my "Snowman String of Hearts", a rubber image at Whimsy Stamps.
I coloured the image with Copics, and used a gel pen for the white snowflakes  and swirls on the blue sky. The blue background paper is my own creation, and the red and white striped is from Christmas Essentials digital paper at Whimsy Stamps.
Sending another cheerful Merry Christmas your way!

Sparkle - Penguin Elf!

Here is my take on the Make It Crafty Challenge, to create sparkle without the aid of actual glitter! The challenge was to draw the sparkle and shine with what ever colouring medium you use.  I used Copics followed by three gel pens - a white, a light red and a dark red, to make the look of glitter without actually using glitter.
The image is my illustration for Whimsy Stamps, sold as "Penguin Elf", a digital image you can get at Whimsy Stamps!

The trees are from Zoe's company, Make It Crafty - Whimsical Pine (medium and small), the papers are from Whimsy's digital line, "Snow Deep"  and Nordic Christmas (currently free from Whimsy, Merry Christmas, and thank you Tracy and Denise of Whimsy Stamps!!).
The cute chipboard words are also from Make It Crafty and are also sold at Whimsy!
I coloured my penguin and snow scene with the following Copic markers:
Whites of Penguin: W00, 0, YR30, R30, 0 blender, E40, 41, BV20, BG70
Gold bell, beak and feet: YR30, 12, 14, 16, 23, 27, E39, 99
Blacks: N0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 7, 9, Special Black
Greens of outfit: G00, 03, 05, 21, 46, BG 78, W4
Red of outfit and ribbon: R30, 12, 14, 24, 27, 35, 56, 46, 39, 89
Greens of leaves: YG01, 21, 46, BG78
Snow whites: BG0000, 000, B60, B00, B32, 21, BG70, BG10
Sky: BG10, B41 and Salty Ocean Distress Oxide sponged over the top portion of the sky
BG96 to show a bit of the evergreen leaves on the trees
I am entering a few challenges:
Make It Crafty : Sparkle (creating the look of glitter without using glitter)
Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoaststampers (to view my inspiration photo, click HERE)
Thank you for looking folks, and,
I hope you can enjoy the holidays this year!

Penguin Carollers

Hi Peeps! I am getting into the glow of things... enjoying making a glowing scene, that is! I used the lantern from Make It Crafty and the Penguin Carollers, a sneak peak at my new digital image that is coming out on Dec 1st!
I coloured the images with Copics, went over some parts with coloured pencils, used Distress Oxide inks to sponge over the sky (that has a base of Copics), then used some Gelatos (a pastel like medium) over some parts of the sky and ground.  Finally touched it off with white gel pen for the swirly snow! Thank you for looking!

Penguin Thinking Of You

Hi Peeps!
I'm so excited to be back in the swing of things and making cards again! I had to take a bit of a break to take care of moving houses.  It sure is a lot of work, but I love being settled where we are now.
Here is a card I made to join in with the November challenge at Make It Crafty! I combined the freebie from MIC, the lantern (from MIC's Festive Elements) along with my Penguin Thinking Of You digital image for Whimsy Stamps.
I used Copics and then added some sponged inks on top, as well as a few coloured pencils in places.  I even added some Gelatos in places here and there! So certainly this turned out to be mixed media! The falling snow was just a white gel pen overtop everything. I love playing with the light in a project and this was such a great exercise in making a glowing scene!
Pretty papers from Whimsy Stamps - from Christmas Jewel and Christmas Essentials.
There's still time to enter into the challenge at MIC, simply titled, "GLOW"
Besides the MIC challenge, I am also entering into the following challenges at Splitcoaststampers
IC625 The Company Store
F4A405 Words To Live By
WT663 Thanksgiving Leftovers
SC672 Sketch Challenge
Hope you are enjoying this lovely season of snow and joy!

Special Edition Snowman and Penguins

I hardly ever make a one layer card, but this one was such a complicated scene that I felt any embellishing or layers would take away from it, rather than add to it. This is a Special Edition of my Snowman and Penguins illustration that I did for Whimsy, which is being used to teach a colouring class at Kit and Clowder.
Coloured first with Copics and then with some Prismacolour Pencils on top of the snow.
I finished it off with making a light snowfall with my white gel pen.
I entered this into the Christmas Challenge for September, in which you had to use trees, snowy outdoor scenes, or a Christmas tree!
Thanks for looking!

Penguin Prezzie

Here's a look at my hubby's bird-day (oops, I mean, "birth-day"!) card for this year! I used two red rubber stamps from Whimsy - the Penguin Prezzie for the main image, and the hat and sentiment from "Happy Bird-day" set. I only had to stamp the hat and fussy cut around it, then glue it on. The balloon was hand drawn, after I stamped the sentiment, then coloured and fussy cut as well. What's great about Penguin Prezzie is that he can be used for any gift giving occasion, Christmas included, because he comes without any hat at all.  You could just as easily stamp a santa hat to dress him up for Christmas!
The gold stickers have sparkle (photo didn't pick that up). I doodled around the edges for another detail. Beautiful paper is printed off my own computer from some of Whimsy's gorgeous patterned paper. I used some sheets from the "Soft Spring Greens" set. I really don't need to buy paper from anywhere else now, they have such a huge variety in the catalogue. And it is SO much easier to have these ready to print rather than to have stacks of paper that I have to store and leaf through by hand.

I coloured the image with the following Copics:
Penguin Blacks: C0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, blender 0
Beak and feet: Yr21, 23, 27
Penguin Whites: E40, B60, V91, E70, 71, R30 for blush
Turquoise: BG11, 13, 15, 32, 34, 72, 75, 91, 93
Greens: YG01, 03, 05, 25, 67
Pinks: RV02, 05, 17, 19
I've entered into the SplitcoastStampers colour challenge for this week, CC659
Thanks so much for looking!

31 Nights of Halloween - Night 20

This is a special post!  I want you to know that Whimsy is having a big Halloween celebration and you are invited to participate! Hop on over to the Whimsy Inspirations Blog to find out more!
I posted a special post on there, and explained the game you can play to get your name entered into a draw for free images from Yours Truly! So don't wait, head on over there and play!
For my card, I used my rubber image, "Kitties On Halloween"
I coloured it using multi-media.  I started with Copics, and then used some distress inks and some coloured pencil. I did some sponging on the sky to get the glow around the moon.  I used the distress inks like watercolours, and used a thin water colour brush to do the grass strands.
The paper is by the wonderful Tracy Wray of Whimsy. It is digital paper from her "Haunted Halloween" pack 1
I am IN LOVE with Tracy's papers, and I just feel so empowered that I can download and print out what ever sheets I want, and as many times as I want when I get one of her packs of digital paper!  It is a dream to be able to do this at home with my own printer! Saves loads of space too!
Layering is a breeze also, because I can layer it in my word program! No more need to carefully cut layers!! Can you tell I love this stuff??? ;-)
Here's a close-up of the image:
Thanks for looking and have a Spook-tacular Day!

Wedding Bells

It's time for another Whimsy Challenge - Anything Goes!  Here's a wedding card I did for my niece using my Whimsy rubber set, "Wedding Bells"!  I also used the Whimsy Die from "Card Builder - Hearts of Love".  The paper is an older digital Whimsy paper no longer available by Michelle Roos. There's only two layers on this card, the image and the paper!
Copics used were:
Skin tones - E0000, 000, 00, 01, 21, RV93, R20
Greys N2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9
Hair: Y21, E40, 41, 42, 43, 44
White dress: E40, 41, BV20, 23
Too bad you can't see all the sparkle! The wooden heart is covered with glitter glass, and the word "Love" is covered with glitter. The centre of the bow is also glittery! The photo doesn't show it.
I hope you can join in the Whimsy Challenge this month and by doing so, get a chance to win a 15$ gift voucher for the store!  You must use a Whimsy paper or image in order to enter, but that's not a problem because Whimsy Store has a section where there is always a freebie or two to choose from!
Thanks for looking and don't forget to join in the challenge!

Christmas Elf

Here is a sneak peek at one of my latest rubber images for Whimsy - "Christmas Elf"! It will be in the Whimsy Stamps store very soon! (Sept 2017) Also coming are the holly dies I used on this card in a nice set of Christmas branches, so check the store on Thursday Sept 7th!
I used some of Tracy's gorgeous Christmas paper (digital) found at the Whimsy Store HERE
Also used a Spellbinders oval die for the main image, and a flourish die (the flourish at the bottom). I made the poinsettia with the Build A Poinsettia Die from Whimsy.
The red wrinkly paper is some hand made paper I got a long time ago in a pack at Costco.
Here is the Copic list:
Skin: E0000, 00, 11, V95, R30 blush
Reds: R17, 29, 89
Greens: YG01, 03, 05, 45 as well as Prismacolour Light Olive Green
Hair: E08, 15, 97
Blue ball: B32, 34, 37
Whites: B000, BV20
W00, 1, 3 as ground shadow
I also used Prismacolour Pencils over top the image in places to bring out more shadows and highlights.  So this is a mixed media image.
I joined in a couple of challenges at Splitcoaststampers:
WT651 - In Three (I used three holly die cuts and the elf has a hat with three peaks)
SCSCCSEP17 - memories (I have a fond memory of seeing real (to me) elves on Christmas eve when I was around 6!)
And the Fussy And Fancy Challenge - Anything Goes, mixed media (I used Copics and Coloured Pencils)
Thanks for looking today!

Gingerbread Man

Yeehaw, another Christmas card done! I am really adding to my list these days and I just love it!
This is my Gingerbread Man for Whimsy Stamps.  I coloured it with Copics and added a layer of coloured pencils on top to really blend and bring out the shadows.
I have a Copic colouring tutorial on this image, so if you are interested, here is the LINK
Copic list:
0 blender
E15, 37, 47
BV20, 23, B000
R14, 27, 59
YG09
G19, 29
I used Tracy's gorgeous Christmas papers that are found HERE
I was out shopping the other day and found a package of wooden tags that were blank.   I was able to fit a slice of one of Tracy's papers onto it, and it fit three sentiments from the paper just perfectly! I just glued it onto the tag and I was done!
The holly and mistletoe branch are a sneak peek at a new die set (designed by Yours Truly!) coming out in just a few days at Whimsy!
Thanks so much for looking!

The Infant King

Hi Readers!
If you have been following Whimsy Stamps, you may have seen this image before.  It was out as a digital image in the last few years.  Then, it went into the "vault".  Well, good news! It is now being re-released in red rubber! This is your sneak peek, but you will find it in the Whimsy Store on Wed. August 16th by noon EST.
I coloured the image with Copics, and then went over some areas with Luminance coloured pencils.
Some of the designer paper is also from Whimsy.  Pierced Stars are a Whimsy Die. You can find all the products here:
Infant King red rubber image (link won't work until Wed. Aug. 16 noonish EST)
I've entered the following challenges with this card:

Touched By Love

You may (or may not) remember this from last year's digital catalogue at Whimsy Stamps! This is "Touched By Love".
I used some of Tracy's gorgeous Christmas Tidings Paper as well as some from her Christmas Cheer pack at Whimsy. Both those packs can be found HERE. I coloured "Touched By Love" image with the following Copics:
Skin: E00, 01, 11, 21, RV93, V91 (I also went over the flesh area a bit with some Prismacolour pencils, once I was done in Copics)
Blonde: YR20, E44, 47
Manger: E31, 33, 35, 37
Ribbon: RV32, R56, 59, RV99, 0
Holly: G21, 24, 94, YG61, 67
Wings: E40, V91, E70, B60, 0
Blanket: B60, BG90, V91
Dress: BG90, V91
A lot of people leave white objects un-coloured. But if you want to make the white of an image look closer to real life, there has to be some shading in there somewhere. I don't colour over the entire area, just the areas I think would be more in shadow. And since white is always reflecting the colour of things around it, you can use a variety of very light shades to get your white shadows.
I'm sure enjoying this Christmas in July!
Hope you are too!
Blessings,
Crissy

Christmas Spaniel Set

Hi Folks! Another Christmas card today (I just got started!!!) I used my Christmas Spaniels set, and one of the three spaniels in the set, for the main image. She looks just like my Avro (who is now with Jesus!) so this set means a lot to me.

I coloured her with the following Copic markers:
YR20, 21, E30, 33, 34, 55, 57
R30, 32, 35, 37, 39, 89
G07, 28, with 0 blender to remove ink to make dots on the gift wrap
BV20, 23 and B0000 on the whites
W1, 3, 6 on the ground
The beautiful green starry paper and the striped paper are from Tracy's Christmas Tidings Set, a digital set of paper that you print at home, also from Whimsy Stamps. Snowflake is also a Whimsy die, and the Wonky Squares are from Spellbinders.
I've entered this card into the colour challenge at Splitcoast Stampers.
Thanks so much for looking!

Life's A Beach!

I have another penguin card today - from my "Life's A Beach" clear polymer set at Whimsy! The sentiment also comes with the set (as well as a few other sentiments, and two other penguins!)
Another Whimsy product I used was the Stitched Border Die.  I love that set, and I've used it so often, and am sure I will use it again!
I coloured the penguin with the following Copics (and one Prismacolour marker)
Blacks: C0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, V99, V20
Whites: Prismacolour marker "Cream", E40, 70, C1
Reds: YR07, YR18, R08, RV00, 02, 04, 19, FRV
Sky: BG10
Sand: E41, 43, 44
Snorkel and mask: B21, BG11, V15, 17, 28

I also used one of my own paper designs from the "Distressed Polka Dots" digital pack.
A little bit of white gauze around the circle die, and the card was done!

Penguin Birthday

Hello People!  I have a card to share with you today using the rubber image, "Penguin Birthday" which I illustrated for Whimsy Stamps.  If you've never been to the Whimsy online store, I encourage you to go and check them out.  They also have free stuff available too, in addition, they are offering a monthly free stamp set with purchase of over $75 (American dollars before tax).
I was happy to make this card for Splitcoast Stamper's Colour Challenge #CC641
My Splitcoast Stampers Gallery is HERE in case anyone is interested!
